10 first-date ideas in Czech cities
From riverside walks in Prague to the industrial skyline of Ostrava – ten relaxed, low-pressure first-date ideas across Czech cities, for every budget and every kind of couple.
The best first dates are relaxed, easy to leave or extend, and give you something to talk about besides "so… what do you do?". Here are ten ideas from around the Czech Republic that tick all three boxes. Most of them are free or cheap, all of them are in public places, and none of them require you to sit opposite each other in silence.
Prague
1. Sunset at Letná
Letná park sits above the Vltava with one of the best views of the city's bridges. Grab a drink to go, find a bench and watch the light change over the rooftops. It is open, lively and easy to walk away from – or to turn into dinner nearby if things go well.
2. A Saturday at Náplavka
The riverside embankment around Rašínovo nábřeží is famous for its weekend farmers' market and relaxed atmosphere. Wander between stalls, share a snack and talk about food – it is surprisingly revealing. Later in the day the boats and bars along the river keep the mood going.
3. Vyšehrad walk
Quieter than the castle and full of history, Vyšehrad offers views, gardens and plenty of benches. It is perfect if you prefer a calm setting where you can actually hear each other.
4. Paddle boats on the Vltava
Renting a paddle boat is silly in the best possible way. You have to cooperate, you will probably laugh, and nobody can take themselves too seriously while pedalling. Great for breaking the ice in the warmer months.
Brno
5. Špilberk and the old town
Climb up to Špilberk Castle for a view over Brno, then wander down into the old town for a coffee. The park around the castle is a lovely place for a slow walk, and the city centre is full of small cafés if you want to sit down.
6. A boat trip on Brno Reservoir
In summer, passenger boats run on the Brno Reservoir (Brněnská přehrada). A short trip, a walk along the shore and an ice cream is an easy-going date that feels like a mini holiday.
Ostrava
7. Dolní oblast Vítkovice
Ostrava's former ironworks has become one of the most striking places in the country. Walk among blast furnaces and gas holders, and if you like heights, head up to Bolt Tower for the view. There is always something to talk about – and plenty of spots for a drink afterwards.
8. An evening on Stodolní
If you both enjoy going out, Ostrava's famous Stodolní street is packed with bars and music. Start somewhere quieter for a proper conversation, then decide together whether the night continues.
Other cities
9. Science, Plzeň style
Techmania Science Center in Plzeň is full of hands-on exhibits that turn you into curious kids again. It is a great date for people who do not love small talk: the exhibits do the talking for you.
10. Ještěd above Liberec
The famous tower on top of Ještěd offers one of the most recognisable views in the country. Go up together, enjoy the panorama and have a hot drink while you are there. It is the kind of date you will both remember.
Tips that work in any city
- Choose activities with a natural end. A walk, an exhibition or a boat trip has a built-in finish line, which takes the pressure off.
- Pick public places. All the ideas above are busy, open spaces – ideal for meeting someone for the first time. Our first-date safety tips go into more detail.
- Think about accessibility. Not everyone enjoys stairs, crowds or loud music. Ask what the other person prefers – it shows you care.
- Be yourself, whoever you are with. Czech cities are increasingly welcoming to LGBTQ+ couples. If you are unsure about a place, choose a venue you already know feels comfortable.
- Talk about values, not just hobbies. If you have both filled in the values compass on Lyvooria, comparing a few answers can lead to the most interesting conversation of the evening.
After the date
If you had a good time, say so – a short message the same evening goes a long way. And if you both want to, you can confirm the date in the app. Verified dates help build a community where people show up and treat each other well.
Wherever you meet, the most important ingredient is the same: curiosity about the person in front of you. The view is just a bonus.
